Lepin 16016 MOC of The Flying Dutchman
This is a MOC of The Flying Dutchman released by Lepin. However, we couldn’t figure out who is the original author of this set. There are numerous designs floating on internet and Lepin could have borrowed from one of them. Lepin 16016 came with 3652 pieces of bricks and nine minifigures from the Pirates of the Caribbean Movie. Lepin was generous to include 12 canons, unlike other Lego sets which had just enough to fill one side of the ship. There were 12 numbered bags which had the parts presorted according to the instruction manual. The pirate ship is three decks design with tattered sails, fitting for Davy Jones to command.
To avoid copyright issue Lepin named the set Pirates of the Gramarye. Got a feeling the sails were borrowed from the Silent Mary, in which Lepin had cloned as set 16042.
Back of the box.
Have a bad feeling about the color reproduction of the manual.
Bag 1 of Lepin 16016
Bag zero is among the Numbered 2 bags. However it wasn’t used at all.
Printed parts of wooden plank. Lepin would make use of them extensively in set 16050 The Old Fishing Store.
Hate to say this but superglue is needed to prevent this part of build from falling apart.
Build from the Bag 3.
Very generous for Lepin to include 12 canons.
Unsure whether Lego had the brown skull head.
Lots of detailing at the side of the ship.
Jack Sparrow sitting on the seat for Davy Jones. In the movie there was a pipe organ but Lepin didn’t include it in the interior. Yes, there are jail rooms at the back of the pirate ship.
Smaller canons dotting the upper deck of the Flying Dutchman.
Bag Number 8.
Bag Number 9 for Captain’s quarter.
Bag Number 10
The octopus is made of soft rubber.
Bag Number 11 to prepare the sails.
The sails are semi transparent green color. Perhaps the sails had too many holes.
Lepin The Flying Dutchman Ship completed. Do note that there were strings for the ship which we were too lazy to install.
Replication of the ship from POTC movie.
There were nine minifigures in this set. However nothing too fancy about them. The printing quality on the minifigures were good.
Summary of Lepin 16016 The Flying Dutchman
The end product is a pirate ship that weighted 6 kg. The ship structure is strong and sturdy. A base is included to place the ship. It would be great if pipe organ is included in the set to replicate the scene Davy Jones played the instrument. Minor complaint would be the loose “claws” parts which you need to apply superglue. Highly recommended for lover of Lego style pirate ship. You could order Lepin 16016 The Flying Dutchman from Aliexpress.
